Aspiring Guides

Jagged Globe's New Zealand mountaineering partner

At Jagged Globe we have always sought new opportunities for our climbers, and we are now delighted to introduce our partner for mountaineering in New Zealand, Aspiring Guides [link opens new window]. This small company, based in Wanaka on the edge of the Mt Aspiring National Park, is one of New Zealand's longest established guiding companies.

The Southern Alps of New Zealand have long been regarded as a prime mountaineering region. They provide an experience similar to the European Alps but in a much more serious wilderness setting. The mountains may not be quite so high (Aoraki-Mt Cook is more than 1000m lower than Mont Blanc) but they start much lower down and accessing them is a major element of the experience. They are therefore not busy and enjoy an environment more akin to mountain ranges of twice their height. Little wonder that it has spawned so many great mountaineers, including of course, Edmund Hillary.

Through Aspiring Guides we can offer you the chance to climb in this amazing country. Popular ascents include Mt Aspiring, Mt Tasman and of course New Zealand's crowning glory, Aoraki-Mt Cook. We can also offer ice climbing and technical mountaineering courses, as well as ski-mountaineering and heli-skiing.

If you have climbed in the European Alps and are looking for a new challenge, New Zealand will not disappoint! You can check out all the opportunities offered by Aspiring Guides on their excellent website:

Details of the Mt Aspiring and Mt Cook ascents operated by Aspiring Guides are also available from Jagged Globe.
